On June 5th at 10:00 a.m. there will be a press conference led by AGC (and supported by many other groups including MEWEA) in Augusta to urge lawmakers to reconvene and deal with many critical bills that were left on the table. One item is a “borrowing package that would help fund upgrades and improvements for wastewater treatment facilities across the state, including Portland, where millions of gallons of raw sewage is still spilling into Casco Bay. The $25 million that is on the table for improvements to wastewater facilities also would be used to leverage local and federal investment to protect the state’s waterways and drinking water”. – Portland Press Herald
“With the fiscal year ending June 30, the Legislature has a relatively small window to get bills passed and to LePage’s desk, especially since the governor has 10 days to review bills before issuing a veto or signing them into law”. Portland Press Herald
Though they intend to return this Wednesday, it is not known what the outcome will be.
Please attend the press conference if you are willing and able. We need to let them know how crucial infrastructure funding is.
